inverse multiplexing

inverse multiplexing
Abbreviated IMux. In communications, a technique that splits a high-speed data stream into two or more parts for transmission over multiple lower-speed channels. Once at the receiving end of the circuit, the data streams are combined into a single stream. Inverse multiplexing provides bandwidth on demand, to avoid the high costs associated with a leased line that may not be fully utilized at all times and to take advantage of low-cost low-speed lines.
